The Ethiopian calendar is about 7–8 years behind the Gregorian calendar. It has 13 months: 12 months of 30 days and a 13th month, Pagumen, with 5 or 6 days. The year starts on September 11 (or 12 in leap years).

Ethiopian time is also unique—it's based on a 12-hour clock that starts at sunrise (6:00 AM Gregorian) and sunset (6:00 PM). So 1 o'clock Ethiopian time is actually 7 AM Gregorian.
